If you want to be a Potluck Rock Star, this is your Gateway Dish!
This winter, while we were keeping warm in Florida for a few weeks, we were invited to a house party. The price of admission was a platter of finger food.
I had just picked up a huge bag of multi-colored, baby bell peppers, rarely found in the mid-Atlantic. So, I stuffed a dozen of them with a creamy-yet-slightly-lumpy bleu cheese concoction, wrapped them in bacon and asked Mr. Nest threw them on the grill.
When we arrived that evening, they were added to a serving table already groaning with platters of yumminess. Within three and a half minutes, our bleu cheese poppers had completely disappeared.
Two nights later, close friends were hosting their own party and we were asked to bring “those pepper appetizers you brought to Joni’s!” So, we doubled the recipe and watched people close to the table devour every one of them in 4 minutes. Flat!
You know one of the great things about buying gifts for young children? They always know what they want. Ask and you’ll get a specific list of things so wonderful, it makes their knees wiggle when they talk about them!
Then they hit their twenties… and you’re on your own. Our family is delightfully large with children ranging in age from 34 to 20. So you can imagine how difficult it is to think of Christmas gift ideas to put under the tree for everyone. At least something they’ll actually like (without just throwing a little green at them).
This year, Mr. Nest and I decided to think differently. Instead of looking for what we think they’ll like, we’ve decided to approach from the other direction. What can they really use?
In the spirit of sharing ideas this season, here’s a list of Christmas gift ideas we’ve brainstormed for our adult kids. We hope it helps!
Private Spoiler Alert to our very own children:
If or when you read this, your gifts will not be found on this list. Or will they?!
Before I start talking about how to safely clean granite, I want to ask …
How was your Thanksgiving?? Any stories to share about your day? 🙂 Ours was wonderful! We had thought only a few of our kids would be able to join us. But as we sat down to eat, the group grew and grew until almost everyone had joined us! Who here is in the middle of preparing for the holidays? Shopping? Cooking? Cleaning? Show of hands! (Maybe the question should be, “Who’s not?”)
Whether you are hosting friends and family at home, or bringing a dish to pot-luck, cleaning is in high gear at this time of year. Especially in the kitchen.
I used to worry about how safe my household cleaners were. The more I learned about their ingredients, the more concerned I was about what was spraying all over the house. And what residue was left behind whenever I “cleaned”.
This hand and body lotion is what I throw together about four times a year and use everyday.
Ready-made lotions, even the healthy ones, don’t seem to have enough Ooomph! to work all day like this one does.
One of the first signs of my above-45 status was that richer hand and body lotions became necessary to keep my skin hydrated. For years, I swore by certain, well-known lotions that I slathered on and rubbed in every morning to combat the decades of living that had started to show.
