My Favorite Sore Throat Remedy – NestHalfFull.com

April, 2014 – Last Summer, I shared my favorite sore throat remedy in “About Sore Throats and Apple Cider Vinegar”.  It was the first time one of my posts got “out there”.  It is gratifying to know people have found my obscure publication.

A major reason I reach for this remedy is Allergy Season.  Which is why I’m passing this recipe around, yet again!

Are you in the beginning throws of sneeze, drip and cough season.  They’re saying that this past winter’s exceptional length and low temperatures have prepared the way for a perfect storm in the allergy world.  The prolonged cold delayed Spring.  So now all three main segments of seasonal torture are converging into one “Allergy Vortex”.  This is creating reactions in people who ordinarily walk through life blissfully unaware of pollens.

One of the things I experience during this tough season is sore throats.  So I’m rubbing in the essential oils and sipping my favorite sore throat remedy from a tablespoon as needed throughout the day.

I promise to get back to you on using essential oils to treat allergies.  Just give me a little time to research, test, tweak and use myself as a guinea pig.  In the meantime, here is my sore throat remedy.

My Favorite Sore Throat Remedy

Yields about 1/2 cup (120 ml)

What’s in it …
4 Tablespoons (60 ml) organic, Raw Honey – local is best if you can find it
2 Tablespoons (30 ml) Apple Cider Vinegar (I like Braggs or Eden with the “mother” – that cloudy stuff at the bottom of the bottle means it’s a live culture!)
1/4 cup (60 ml) of hot, organic tea – I usually use Throat Coat Tea, Licorice or Chamomile

How to pull it together …
Measure it all in a jar, twist the lid on tightly, and shake until well-mixed.

To use …
Shake to remix.  Pour about 1 tablespoon into a clean spoon and take it like you would cough syrup.

The raw honey soothes, helps overcome allergies (some say and I believe) and takes the edge off of the vinegar.  The apple cider vinegar tingles for about 3 seconds and then your throat starts to de-phlegm and the soreness goes away!

How awesome is that?! Handy ingredients, easy and fast fast to make AND it’s good for you!!!

  1. I’m going to pass this on to some of my friends at work who are really suffering during this “allergy vortex.” (If the word “vortex” is involved, it can’t be good.) Thanks, Sis! xoxo

    1. That was my reaction to “vortex”, too! This honey, ACV and tea mix is surprisingly effective. And you don’t have to wait 4 to 8 hours for the next dose if you need it! I hope it’s helpful. Please let me know if they try the EO’s and/or the sore throat remedy and if your friends found it helpful!
